(1) The warehouse should be selected according to geographical conditions. Generally, an ordinary closed warehouse is used, that is, a warehouse with a roof, walls, tight doors and windows, and ventilation devices;
(2) The steel pipes must not be stacked together with materials that are corrosive to steel, such as acid, alkali, salt, cement, etc. Different types of steel should be stacked separately to prevent confusion and contact corrosion;
(3) Large steel, rails, steel plates, large-diameter steel pipes, forgings, etc. can be stacked in the open air;
(4) Some small steel, thin steel plates, steel strips, silicon steel sheets, small-diameter or thin-walled steel pipes, various cold-rolled and cold-drawn steels, and expensive and easily corroded metal products can be stored in warehouses;
(5) Small and medium-sized steel, wire rods, steel bars, medium-diameter steel pipes, steel wires and wire ropes, etc. can be stored in well-ventilated material sheds, but they need to be covered with tarpaulins;
(6) The warehouse should be ventilated on sunny days and closed on rainy days to prevent moisture, and always maintain a suitable storage environment;
(7) The site or warehouse for storing steel should be selected in a clean and well-drained place, away from factories and mines that produce harmful gases or dust. Weeds and all debris should be cleared on the site to keep the steel clean;
Before entering the warehouse, large-diameter steel pipes should be protected from rain or impurities. For materials that have been rained on or soiled, different methods should be used to clean them according to their properties. For example, wire brushes can be used for high hardness, and cloth, cotton, etc. can be used for low hardness. After entering the warehouse, they should be checked frequently. If there is rust, the rust layer should be cleaned. Generally, after the surface of the steel pipe is cleaned, it is not necessary to apply oil. However, for high-quality steel, alloy steel plates, thin-walled pipes, alloy steel pipes, etc., the inner and outer surfaces must be coated with anti-rust oil after rust removal before storage.
When quenching and tempering the hardness of large-diameter steel pipes, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of production. For products produced in small batches, different large-diameter steel pipes can select different hardnesses. For factories producing in large batches, it is hoped that the hardness range of most large-diameter steel pipes is consistent or fixed within several hardness ranges, which is very convenient for organizing heat treatment production. From the perspective of the use of large-diameter steel pipes, when determining the hardness of quenched and tempered parts, it is necessary to pay attention to the working conditions and shape of large-diameter steel pipes. Generally speaking, the higher the hardness value, the higher the tensile strength, yield strength, and fatigue strength of smooth samples, but the plasticity index decreases, and the brittle failure tendency and stress concentration sensitivity increase. Therefore, when there are notches (splines, grooves, or large cross-section changes) that act as stress concentration on large-diameter steel pipes, to make the stress distribution uniform and reduce stress concentration, a lower hardness can obtain a large-diameter steel pipe with higher fatigue performance.
